The processes presented in this introduction, or "Workshop", are similar to those that humans used in agriculture 10,000 years ago, but this time with coral. Teaching the crucial processes of coral rehabilitation can be likened to teaching gardening. Instead of trying to train marine biologists, which would take weeks or months or years, energy and resources, we teach people how to propagate coral which is more efficient and important considering how fast coral reefs are being destroyed.
Why do we need this introduction, when we could just go ahead and propagate? The answer is the same as gardening. Anyone can plant and wait for it to grow. But the results differ depending on experience, maintenance and knowledge. This introduction identifies the different processes that reduce the stress on corals during these operations, and also understands the importance of monitoring and maintaining the cuttings. Through this course we ensure that the issues are well understood, and you understand the value of having a minimum training with Ocean Quest Global to be able to conduct these rehabilitation and propagation projects properly and sustainably.
